Dawit Yohannes Wondemagegnehu holds an MA in global studies from the Universities of Vienna and Leipzig. Dawit is currently a PhD candidate in global and area studies (with a special emphasis on peace and security in Africa) in a program jointly offered by the University of Leipzig, Germany, and the Institute for Peace and Security Studies (IPSS) of Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia. His ongoing PhD research project is entitled “AU-UN Collaboration in Peace and Security in Africa: Re-spacing Security Governance in the New Millennium?” Some of his research interests include African peace and security institutions, new regionalisms, China-Africa relations, and peacebuilding in South Sudan. He has co-authored a chapter on “Analyzing China’s Contribution to Peace in the North and South Sudan Conflict: Pre and Post Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA)” in a book entitled China Africa Relations: Governance, Peace, and Security, published by IPSS (2013). Dawit is also a staff member of IPSS, where he has been serving in different capacities including projects coordinator, head of operations, academic coordinator, researcher, and research assistant. In addition, he briefly worked as a research/project assistant at the Center for Higher Studies of the University of Leipzig, Germany.
