Henry Wellman

Henry Wellman was born in Hickory, North Carolina (1948). He received his undergraduate degree from Pomona College (1970), was a kindergarten and preschool teacher for a few years and received his Ph.D. from the Institute of Child Psychology at the University of Minnesota (1975). Wellman has been at the University of Michigan for 35 years where he is the Harold. W. Stevenson Collegiate Professor of Psychology. For many years his research has focused on children's developing knowledge of persons. He has written more than 100 articles and several books including The Child's Theory of Mind and Children Talk about the Mind. He is past-president of the Cognitive Development Society, recipient of an NIH MERIT Award, and is the 2012 recipient of the American Psychological Association’s G. Stanley Hall Award. He lives in Ann Arbor Michigan with his wife Karen Lind, and has two sons Ned and Daniel.
